After some tinkering over the weekend, my wife’s new site is up and running – Pia Petterson.
The site is based on a new (not yet released) template by TXP Builders – a tumblelog or Tumblr style. No plugins, forms or images are used in the template and it has been designed to work out of the box. Content types are set according to custom fields (blog, quote, link, video, image). Markup is HTML 5.

Nice. Looking forward to checking this out. Love it the idea that it works directly out of the box. HTML5 too – nice work.

Are you releasing it? It would be great to study its code. ;)

I think we should release this template soon. There are 3 templates in the series, all for different purposes.
One is a tumblelog, one a photoblog and the final one a simple blog.
All 3 templates are minimal and easy to build on, which was the main design goal. None of the templates requires any forms or external files (unless comments are required, in which case it depends if the TXP devs accept our suggestion for the 3 comment forms).

You can see the proposed changes to the TXP forms here.

Really interesting code for comments, surely a way better from current table solution. But I didn’t understand a thing: can I use your code since now? Or conditional code should be added to Txp?
p.s. your templates are really, really nice, I will wait for them to build on my personal weblog. Thanks for sharing.
p.p.s.
Is there a way/plugin to automatically install templates ala Wordpress themes?
Thank you again,
Giuseppe

@Guiseppe – yes, you can just replace the comments forms with the code I posted.
Glad you like the templates!
Currently there is no mechanism for changing themes in Textpattern – at least not for the front end of the site. There are many themes for the Admin though.
What we tried to do with the templates we created was to make it easy to just copy and paste the three page templates. This makes is quite easy to change the look of the page at a later date.
Of course there are other options – one is using mem_ or hcg_templates which allow for a type of front end theming, but its not to my personal taste because forms/pages etc become rather cluttered.
